Like a little lifeboat, we hope this will give the shelter animals a little hope to hold them until they find their forever home.

Bulky-weight yarn: (A) main color, 185yds; (B) contrasting color, 80yds; 24"/50cm circular needle and 1 set (5) double-pointed needles (both size 9 / 5.5mm); polyester batting

Pattern Note
We used Lions Brand Homespun #372 Sunshine State for the main color and Lion Brand Homespun #377 Harvest for the contrasting color. If using yarn weight less than bulky weight, double or triple yarn threads to make equivalent thickness.
Instructions

With A and circular needle, cast on 136 stitches. Place marker and join for knitting in the round.

  • K 8 rounds.
  • P 1 round (creates break for bottom stability).
  • K 8 rounds.
  • Attach B, k 1 round, p 1 round.
  • With A, k 1 round.
  • With B, k 1 round, p 1 round.
  • With A, k 8 rounds.
  • Attach B, k 1 round, p 1 round.
  • With A, k 1 round.
  • With B, k 1 round, p 1 round.
  • With A, k 18 rounds.

Beg dec'ing for bottom, switching to dpns when sts no longer comfortably fit on circular needle:

  • Next rnd K dec'ing 4 sts evenly around - 132 sts. K 1 round.
  • Next rnd *K10, K2tog; rep from * around - 121 sts.
  • Next rnd *K9, K2tog; rep from * around - 110 sts.
  • Next rnd *K8, K2tog; rep from * around - 99 sts.
  • Next rnd *K7, K2tog; rep from * around - 88 sts.
  • Next rnd *K6, K2tog; rep from * around - 77 sts.
  • Next rnd *K5, K2tog; rep from * around - 66 sts.
  • Next rnd *K4, K2tog; rep from * around - 55 sts.
  • Next rnd *K3, K2tog; rep from * around - 44 sts.
  • Next rnd *K2, K2tog; rep from * around - 33 sts.
  • Next rnd *K1, K2tog; rep from * around - 22 sts.
  • Next rnd *K2tog; rep from * around - 11 sts.
  • Next rnd *K2tog; rep from * around - 5 sts.

Cut yarn with a 6"/15cm tail.
Turn Snuggle right side down, roll edge up.
Take batting and roll lengthwise (not too tight). Place batting roll inside rolled edge. Fold edge over batting roll. Tack or place markers to hold in place as you work.

Note: this will help to line up rows and avoid puckering. *With tapestry needle and (A), whipstitch edge row to main color row before second contrast band.
