Worsted weight (or double strands of sport weight), acrylic or cotton. For this pattern, we used Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds "Deep Red Rouge Profond" and Red Heart "White".

Pattern Note
You may wish to roll the edges or crochet around the work to make the edges lie flat. For best results in finishing, leave ends long and weave the ends through the work using a tapestry needle.
Instructions
Starting with Red, cast on an odd number of stitches to the desired size.
Row 1 and 2: Knit across.
Row 3: Add the White yarn and *k1, k next st by inserting needle in center of st in row below, knitting through both loops *; repeat between *s to within 2 sts of end, K2.
Row 4: With white, k across.
Pick up Red yarn and continue in pattern. Repeat rows 3 and 4 alternating the colors until desired length. Last two rows should be White, then add two rows of Red to finish off.
